  13.     Now you and your friends can see
  14. who is fast enough and smart enough,
  15. to win your way to the Hot Seat!

  18.             Fastest Finger
  19.  
  20.     You will find that the menus and
  21. editor/viewer of the Fastest Finger
  22. program work very much like Lee
  23. Novak's Hot Seat program.
  24.  
  25.     The only difference on the first
  26. menu is the option to LOAD and RUN the
  27. Hot Seat program.
  28.  
  29.     The editor makes files with 10
  30. sets of questions and answers. The
  31. editor has a different layout, because
  32. each question needs only room for
  33. three lines of text and the four
  34. answers. But entering and editing text
  35. and switching beteen edit mode and
  36. view mode works the same.

  38.     When entering the four answers,
  39. they [MUST] be put in the [CORRECT]
  40. order. When you play the game, the
  41. answers will be put in a random order
  42. at that time. This means that you
  43. could play the same question several
  44. times and the answers will be in a
  45. different order each time.

  48.               Play Game
  49.  
  50.     This is where things work
  51. differently. After selecting play game
  52. from the first menu, a file selector
  53. will show you the files on the disk to
  54. choose from. Just make your selection
  55. as normal.
  56.  
  57.     Next you are asked what question
  58. and answer set you want to play. Enter
  59. a number from 1 to 10 or press "R" for
  60. a random question.
  61.  
  62.     You are now asked for the number
  63. of human players for this Fastest
  64. Finger Round. Enter a number from 1 to
  65. 10.
  66.  
  67.     An input box now appears and each
  68. player is asked to enter their name.
  69. Once all the players have entered
  70. their names, the list of names is
  71. displayed and you are asked if this is
  72. correct. If it is correct press "Y"
  73. for yes. If you press "N", you will
  74. then go back to the screen that
  75. prompts you for the number of players.
  76.  
  77.     Now a screen informs you who's
  78. turn it is to play the Fastest Finger
  79. Round All other players are asked to
  80. turn around or to leave the room. When
  81. you are ready to play, press the space
  82. bar to begin.

  84.     The game screen has four boxes
  85. near the top, the question box in the
  86. middle, and the four answer boxes on
  87. the bottom. The four boxes at the top
  88. are where your answers are put. To
  89. enter your answers you may use the
  90. "A,B,C,D" keys. If you prefer, you can
  91. also use the keys "1,2,3,4" or
  92. "F1,F3,F5,F7".
  93.  
  94.     If, for your answer, you entered
  95. "B,C,A,D", in the boxes at top you
  96. would see a letter in each box (B in
  97. the left most, then C, then A and
  98. finally D). If this is correct then
  99. press the RETURN key. The border will
  100. turn gray to indicate that your answer
  101. has been entered. If you made a
  102. mistake, press the SPACE BAR and the
  103. answers will be erased (you can press
  104. the SPACE BAR at any time to clear
  105. your answers). Then re-enter your
  106. answers and press RETURN.

  108.     Be warned, there is a 20 second
  109. time limit!

  111.     If there are more players waiting
  112. their turn, the next player is told to
  113. get ready to play, and they have their
  114. turn.
  115.  
  116.     Once all players are done, the
  117. answers are shown in the correct
  118. order.
  119.  
  120.     The next screen shows ten diamond
  121. boxes with the names of ten players.
  122. If a player was correct their box
  123. turns green and their time is
  124. displayed at the right. When the last
  125. correct player's time has been shown
  126. the player with the fastest time will
  127. flash green. When this is done the
  128. winning player will be congratulated,
  129. and after a pause you will be brought
  130. back to the first menu where you can
  131. play Fastest Finger again or LOAD in
  132. the Hot Seat.

  137.     I made only a couple of small
  138. changes to the Hot Seat program.
  139.  
  140.     In the first menu I added the
  141. option to LOAD the Fastest Finger
  142. program.
  143.  
  144.     Also on the winning screen I moved
  145. the word "Congratulation" up three
  146. lines (out of the big diamond box) to
  147. make room there for the winner's name
  148. (if you don't play Fastest Finger
  149. first, this line will remain blank).

  152.               What Next?
  153.  
  154.     I will see if there is enough room
  155. in memory to put the two editors
  156. together in one program and the two
  157. games together in a second program, to
  158. eliminate the time it takes to load
  159. from one to the other.
  160.  
  161.     I will try to make some music or
  162. sound effects. From what I've tried so
  163. far, it could be more annoying then
  164. the real thing.
  165.  
  166.     I am not good at understanding a
  167. program writen by someone else, but if
  168. I can, would anybody like to have "Is
  169. that your final answer?" added to the
  170. Hot Seat? The player could choose to
  171. not use it, have it used sometimes, or
  172. used often when you are wrong (to make
  173. you stop and think, "Am I really
  174. sure?".

  178. Finger game and for making some of the
  179. game files.
